About the Program
The Hasso Guam! Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program is also a component of the Hazardous Waste Management Program. The theme "Hasso Guam!" translates from the Chamorro phrase, "Think of Guam." The program began in 1991 and has since collected over 8000 lead acid (car) batteries, over 3000 gallons of used paint, and over 5500 gallons of used oil. After collection, Guam EPA safely disposes of the materials to prevent them from contaminating soils or groundwater. The next collection dates and times will be announced on this web site. For more information about household hazardous waste, consult Guam EPA's What To Do With Household Hazardous Waste. For more information on the Hasso Guam! Program, see the summary report (PDF, 44K) prepared by Conchita Taitano and Steven Bellrichard for the 17th Annual Pacific Islands Environmental Conference in 1998. Generators of hazardous waste on Guam are required to submit an annual report to the Guam EPA Hazardous Waste Management Program. Registered generators will receive notification from Guam EPA in the mail in January 2006. Forms and instructions for 2005 can be downloaded here. Program-Related Regulations The following regulations are administered by the Hazardous Waste Management Program. For more information on the program's statutory authority, please consult 10 Guam Code Annotated, Chapter 51 (Solid Waste Management and Litter Control Act) and Chapter 76 (Underground Storage of Hazardous Substances Act) in the Regulations section of this site.
