Guam EPA, GVB announce free event for kids and families on June 5; "Mañahåk Run" is latest of planned Island Pride events

The Guam Environmental Protection Agency (Guam EPA) and the Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) today announced a free, fun, and educational event for youth and families that will take place this coming Saturday, June 5 at Ypao Beach Park in Tumon. Dubbed the "Mañahåk Run," the event will give our island's young people a chance to see the Tumon Marine Preserve up close through a guided snorkel tour led by professional guides. For those without snorkel gear, GVB will be providing free snorkel sets to the first 250 kids under 14 that sign up in advance.

The day will start at 7 a.m. with a Tumon Bay beach cleanup. The meeting point is the Ypao Park amphitheater. After the cleanup (around 8:30 a.m.), biologists will present a very brief overview of the fish, coral, and other animals that will be observed on the tour before heading out into the water. After the snorkel tour, free hot dogs and drinks will be available.

The event is the latest in a series of "Island Pride" activities that will take place over the next year. Another snorkel tour is planned for July at the Piti Bomb Holes Marine Preserve.
